Resolved Question: Looking for the title of a romance novel set in Helena, Montana?

It was about a young woman who was forced to marry or be engaged to the town recluse who lived on the outskirts of town. It was set in the 1860's, maybe. It had to be written in early 90's/ late 80's. I read it when I was in high school and forgot the title. I remember that the main female character wore the man's ring or something of the sort.
